Description Instructions

The raw skins originate from India and the surrounding areas. The skins have a natural shrunken grain, similar to traditional Levant grain, with a natural polished finish. This leather is retanned with the addition of aluminium salts in order to produce an archival tannage with outstanding durability. The leather is aniline dyed and has a semi-transparent finish.

Please note that colours 3, 6, 9 and 15 are not dyed-through.

You can see examples of our Chieftain Goat on the following finished books: Of A Feather, Antarctica, Soul Traders, The Ryder Cup, Dragon Book, Carte Topographique de L'Egypte, Vita Nuova, Psalms and Trading Eights, The Faces of Jazz that are featured in the Showcase area of our web site.

Chieftain Goat November 4, 2017
Reviewer: Pierre from Belgium
an exquisite leather, it's no wonder these skins are used by a lot of the finest bookbinders in the world. The items arrived within a few days (to Belgium) and, more important, they were very well and carefully packed. There's very little chance of damage by the sometimes rough handling during transportation

Excellent Product and Service May 9, 2016
Reviewer: Jeremy Levine from Warminster, WILTS United Kingdom
This transaction could not have been better. The ordering process was simple: the website choices were clear and payment easy. Follow up from David Lanning was excellent and I was very impressed. The skins I ordered arrived well within schedule and well packed. I was delighted with size and quality of the skins: very well worth the price. I also appreciated that the Hewit team went the extra mile to include some spare dye to colour edges.
Thank you very much.
