Description

Our Bookcalf originates mainly from New Zealand and Scandinavia. The skins are vegetable tanned using Tara and/or Sumac. They are then aniline dyed and dried on our 'glass' drying machine to enhance the natural smoothness and beauty associated with this quality of leather. The surface is absorbent and lends itself well to additional dyeing by the user.

You can see examples of our Bookcalf on the following finished books: The Double Crown Club, Laphroaig, The House South of North, Delta Design Portfolios, 1984, Punctuation: A Printer's Study, Oxford Ankle Boots, Garden Reflections, Gould Hummingbirds and Of Mice and Men that are featured in the Showcase area of our web site.

I ordered this book calf for the spine of a Bible I am repairing. The colour matches the website colour well and the leather is just right for this job.

5 of 5 Crimson Bookcalf February 24, 2021
Reviewer: Peter Whiteley from Sudbury, SUFFOLK United Kingdom
It is disappointing that drying the calfskin on glass leaves such a flat surface compared to goatskin. Unfortunately the New Testament I was binding was too big for a goatskin to cover so calf it had to be. It is however a beautifully prepared skin.

I ordered some book calf. The skins that were sent were lovely and arrived much sooner that I expected. This is a wonderful company to do business with!
